Barack Obama wins Iowa Caucus (a republican wins too)

Final Results (according to The Cedar Rapids Gazette Jan. 04, 2008):

Democrats
Barack Obama = 37.6%
John Edwards = 29.8%
Hillary Clinton = 29.5%

Republicans
Mike Huckabee = 34%
Mitt Romney = 25%
Fred Thompson = 13%
(John McCain) = 15% -- I'm hearing from other sources that McCain got 15% which would actually put him in 3rd above Thompson.

Here is Obama's victory speech from last night.

McCain is the big winner from the Republican side and I think that's bad news for the Democrats. He has already attacked Obama when they tried to work together on legislation. And it worked, Obama came out looking like a politician and McCain just came out looking like a grumpy old man. We already knew the latter and have been trying to hide the former.

Both parties are having a debate tonight and it should be interesting, especially from the Democrats side. The guess is Hilary will come out swinging the wild cards are Edwards and Richardson if they join her I think it will be good for Obama because he'll look like a victim.

I think if Biden and/or Dodd throw their support Obama's way this thing will be over. Not that they have THAT much support but it will show that Obama can get the backing of entrenched Senators and that seems to be the question weighing on many minds.

According to the Citizens of Laconia (that sounds made up) Biden and Dodd's supporters are going to Richardson.
